This Narrow Neck unit renovation is a testament to what’s possible with vision, craftsmanship, and a collaborative approach. Located near Devonport, this neglected unit hadn’t been touched since it was first built—and was overrun with jasmine creepers that had worked their way through the walls and into the ceiling.
Originally a compact two-bedroom, one-bathroom home with no real indoor-outdoor flow, the space was completely reimagined. Working closely with the client and designer, Cain Built developed a new floor plan to bring the property up to modern standards and create a genuinely liveable, welcoming home.
Scope of work included:
- Relocating internal walls for better layout
- Adding a third bedroom and a new ensuite
- Installing and repositioning timber joinery
- Partial recladding and full insulation
- Restoring native matai timber flooring
- Creating extensive decking and boardwalks for enhanced outdoor living
The transformation was dramatic—from a damp, dated structure to a light-filled home with warmth and character. One of the standout features is the new bi-fold door leading to a generous deck, which brought the outdoors in and finally gave the living area the usable outdoor flow it lacked.
As with many renovations, the project came with challenges: the house was slightly out of level, and several timber windows required restoration. But thanks to skilled project management and hands-on effort from the team, every issue was resolved with care.
The client, Brian, praised Cain Built’s professionalism, transparency, and hands-on approach throughout the build—right through to sign-off and final Code of Compliance.
